🔑 Keyword Validation.

Validate demand before writing a single line of code. A technically perfect tool is worthless if nobody is searching for it.

3.1

Ahrefs Keyword Generator walkthrough.

Ahrefs Keyword Generator is a free tool that shows you how many people search for a given keyword each month. Go to ahrefs.com/keyword-generator, enter your keyword, and check the volume.

Viable threshold: Even a tool with 1,000 monthly US searches is a viable candidate. Low search volume often means low competition, which means you can rank quickly and capture 100% of that traffic.

Beyond volume, Ahrefs shows you related keywords and questions. These become your supporting keywords (used in content) and FAQ questions (used for structured data).

3.2

Google Spacebar technique.

This is one of the simplest yet most powerful keyword research techniques. Type your main keyword into Google, press the spacebar, and look at the auto-suggestions. These reveal exactly what users are searching for.

1. Type "online ruler" + spacebar → see suggestions 2. "online ruler cm" → people want centimeters 3. "online ruler for mobile" → mobile is important 4. "online ruler actual size" → calibration matters 5. Click each suggestion and press spacebar again for deeper keywords

Each suggestion is a real search query with real demand. These become your supporting keywords for SEO optimization.

3.3

The Gold Mine indicator.

When searching your keyword on Google, if you see Quora or Reddit threads ranking on Page 1, you've found a gold mine. This means Google currently lacks a dedicated, well-built tool for that query.

Why this matters: Google prefers dedicated tools over forum discussions. If forums are ranking, it's because no good tool exists yet. A well-built micro-tool can easily claim the top spot — sometimes within weeks.

Also check if the existing tools on page 1 have government (.gov) or educational (.edu) domains. If a .gov site is ranking for a utility tool keyword, it means the competition is extremely low.

3.4

Supporting keywords strategy.

Your main keyword gets you found. Supporting keywords help you rank for many related queries simultaneously. Collect them from:

  • Ahrefs related keywords list
  • Google Spacebar suggestions
  • Google "People Also Ask" section
  • Google "Related searches" at the bottom of results
Important: Only include keywords that are genuinely relevant to your tool. Don't add keywords for features you don't support — this hurts rankings because users will bounce.
3.5

US market priority: The 1:100 rule.

Targeting the US market is not optional — it's a strategic requirement. Due to CPM (Cost Per Mille) differences, 1,000 US users often generate the same AdSense revenue as 100,000 Indian users.

Practical implication: Build your tools in English, use .com domains, target US-relevant keywords, and track your US traffic percentage in Google Analytics. Even a tool with just 50 US visitors/day can generate meaningful income.
